Printing Tips

Consider Us Your Partner:
Using us as a partner, as opposed to "just another printer," will provide remarkable results. We can help you stay on schedule and on budget, if we collaborate early and often. Bringing us into your project early will help speed everything along and avoid last minute headaches, and common pitfalls. It will also ensure that your printing is well suited to its purpose - booklets, mailers, handouts, posters, and banners all have different requirements and what works in one format may not work in another.

Plan for the Long Term:
Long term planning will save you time and money. For instance, if you plan for several runs of booklets or other printed materials, we may be able to provide volume pricing and better turnaround times.

Work with a specialist:
An experienced and professional printer saves you time and money because they know what works and what doesn't work on their own equipment and can refer you to a more appropriate vendor when necessary.

Communicate Often:
Make sure that you stay in solid contact with us. We want to help you understand exactly what we need to get the job done, in terms of graphics, fonts, files, and applications. A little time and effort invested here will pay off handsomely when your programs, posters, and banners arrive on time, within budget, and (most importantly) looking fantastic!

Make Sure the Job Fits the Application:
Remember! One type of graphic may not fit for all applications. Something that works on a poster may well not work well in a booklet - each application has its own requirements, and we can guide you to ensure your job comes out exactly right for its application (e.g. we might suggest using lighter bond for a mailing, as this will save on your mailing costs).

Be Available for Questions and Problems:
Make sure that we know how to contact you during the print process: phone number, email, and cell phone would be appreciated.

Changes and How to Communicate:

  1. Make sure that you communicate any changes to your program as quickly, accurately, and clearly as possible.
  2. Understand that, later in the printing process, significant changes may cause delays and additional charges.

Understand Our Process:
Understanding our process will allow you to make intelligent (e.g. less costly) choices about what can be changed, and when during the process modifications to your job are possible.

  • Printing is like custom manufacturing. Every job is different, and each one is produced specifically and specially for you. Obtaining the best results takes care and time - nothing is instantaneous and very little happens with a single mouse click.
    1. Create an output-ready file. If you need help making the file "output ready," we can assist you.
    2. The output-ready file goes to proof is a hard copy sample of the final output.
    3. Changes are made to improve or correct the final product.
    4. Make another proof and reexamine.
    5. Repeat steps 3 - 4 as many times as needed.
    6. Go to press. Printing time depends on quantity and how many pages require.

Estimates Aren't Quotes:
An estimate is just that - an estimation of what a job will cost to produce. Until we sit down and review the specifics of your job, there is no way for anyone to know exactly how much your job will cost, or the time it will take to produce it. But, we will be able to provide reasonably accurate estimates, based on our knowledge of our processes and printing of similar materials.

Experience Counts:
Printing is as much an art as a science, so experience counts for a lot. After all, it is your artwork, and no one ever hired a novice to paint the Sistine Chapel!
